“Solaris was the second circular drawing or tondo I made using the idea of ’systematic variations’ to modulate the linework in order to create a piece that would be looser, less overtly rigorous, and perhaps more random than previous works have been.

There’s a tension between the rigour of the mathematical systems underlying the drawing, and the looseness of haptic mark making on the surface, that is of real interest here alongside the two highly worked colour palettes.” – Chuck Elliott
