“The Fairy Glen was inspired by my childhood, growing up in the Welsh mountains. When it snowed, the rocks would pattern the snow either side of the valleys like this. To my mind, it is the most magical place I have ever been, and I still go to Snowdonia to be inspired for my paintings and book research a couple of times a year. ‘The Fairy Glen’ was painted to capture the ethereal and magical quality of the Welsh mountains in the wintertime. When I was younger, I used to think that fairies lived in the rocks and craggy footholds of the cliff faces. When the larger paint cells in this piece emerged, it made me so nostalgic for this time and so the name for this artwork was born.”
